Kate Sheehan qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1987 and has built extensive expertise in accessible housing and inclusive environmental design. She has partnered with a range of equipment manufacturers, offering specialist consultancy to ensure products and adaptations meet both functional and lifestyle needs.
Kate works closely with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, supporting the advancement of more accessible built environments. She co-authored the Wheelchair Housing Design Guide for the Centre for Accessible Environments, contributed to Minor Adaptations Without Delay, and has written chapters for The Essential Guide for Occupational Therapists. Her work has also informed research on wheelchair space standards within revised building regulations.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the profession, Kate was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists in 2022 and an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Worcester in 2023. She has presented her work internationally and specialises in clinical assessment for accessible housing design.
